In-chair dental sedation is a form of conscious sedation that is administered to patients who experience anxiety or fear when visiting the dentist. At Tankard Dental in Mildura, we use this method to ensure that our patients are comfortable and relaxed throughout their dental procedures.

What to Expect

Our specialist anesthetist will place medications intravenously, which will make you very drowsy but still awake. Dental injections are then given in your mouth by the dentist to numb the surgical site just before the operation.

During the operation, you should not experience pain and may have some memory of the dental injections and operation.

IV Sedation: You must fast, which means having nothing to eat or drink 4 hours before your scheduled operation.
You must arrange for a responsible adult to take you home and stay with you for 24 hours.
You cannot drive a car for a minimum of 24 hours after your procedure.

We offer three types of in-chair sedation at Tankard Dental:

Inhalation sedation. Laughing gas, or nitrous oxide, is breathed in through a mask that blocks out pain with no side effects afterwards.
IV sedation. Delivered directly to your bloodstream, you’ll be put into a relaxed state and may remember little of the procedure.
Oral sedation. You’ll take a pill the night before a procedure, then again an hour beforehand. A calming, drowsy effect is the result.
